Back in March, The Knot released the results of their 2014 Real Weddings Study which is designed to find the financial spending habits and trends in the wedding industry across America.

The study helps to develop budgets for the following year for brides to help give them a realistic number for all the elements of a wedding.  Some couples take these numbers so seriously, that they will send us requests with the exact number.

The report also includes the most expensive places to get married–Washington DC area is 12th at an average of $39,025, along with regional differences to help better define the numbers.

Some of the numbers in the report seem skewed, but not every wedding needs a DJ and a band, or you may find different rates, or not need an engagement ring if you have a family tradition.

The category that we take a look at is Reception DJ in which the 2014 national average was $1,124.  When you consider our rates for a four-hour wedding are $995, we actually come in under that number.  However, when you add in decor, which is also contained within the Florist category ($2,141), we’re right about average.  When you also factor in Ceremony Musicians ($637), you’re getting a great deal.

Now, if you’re planning your wedding, don’t freak out when you see the numbers, because you may not want everything that’s on the list.  Prioritize the items that are very important to you and your fiance and go from there.  Does it matter what kind of food you have?  Do you want those invitations?  Do you want a band or a DJ?  Can you have your ceremony and reception at the same site?  Do you have to get a specific engagement ring?

When looking at these numbers, keep in mind that these numbers are based on weddings of all kinds, from simple backyard weddings, to full-blown church weddings with a major ballroom decorated to the nines.  Stay within yourselves while planning, and that will help you stay within budget.
