There is just something about a June wedding that really adds to the whole atmosphere before the big day. When you have an amazing, energetic couple such as Sean and Carolyn, it sometimes feels like something bigger is helping to make this all come together.
The couple first heard of us after booking Trummer’s on Main in Clifton, Virginia. Trummer’s is an elegant restaurant with the ability to easily transform into an event space for smaller groups and parties. After providing a DJ and emcee for a bat mitzvah a few years ago, Victoria Trummer added us to her preferred vendor’s list.
It was early February when Carolyn inquired about our services. What she and Sean did with the information that was sent, was not focus solely on price, but also on the other details that we were able to provide and soon scheduled a phone conversation around Valentine’s Day to talk more about the details of their wedding day and to get a good chance to get to know each other. Carolyn and Sean really did a great job in asking the right questions to fit their needs, and described exactly what they wanted. You could hear the positive energy and excitement of these high school teachers in their voices throughout the call.
Shortly after, they decided to choose Metro DC DJs, and the planning process began.
Normally, after signing the contract, we’d like to setup a meeting with the couple to get to know them better, but this wasn’t necessary as the phone calls were filled with information and great interaction. Though a final meeting was set less than a month before the big day to go over the details. It was during that meeting that we got to know each other more and get the final details down, about the special songs and to fill in a few blanks to make sure everything was set.
A funny thing happened a couple of days before the wedding when we had a chance to see the names of the family members and those who were also going to be part of the wedding. The officiant, Ray Bearden, has performed at other weddings that we’ve DJed, and we were in attendance for Ray’s daughter’s wedding to a good friend of ours a few years ago. At that wedding, we met a very nice lady named Barbara. Little did we know then, that our paths would cross again as Barbara is Sean’s mother. Small world!
On the wedding day, in Clifton, a beautifully hidden small town in Fairfax County, rain fell but held off long enough to allow guests to make their way from the church, down the street, and into Trummer’s. The Winter Garden was beautifully appointed as tables were prepared and plenty of space allowed guests to mingle for cocktail hour, both inside and outside. The navy, gray and white gave nod to Sean’s family who have a history in the Navy while enhancing the overall feel of the room.
As guests interacted, the happy couple made their way to a bridal suite on the top floor of Trummer’s. This room allowed them to relax a little before the big introductions. It was in this room that we called together all of the bridesmaids and groomsmen to go over the grand entrance.
The bridal party would be introduced to Outkasts’ “The Way You Move” while Sean and Carolyn would be introduced to Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe”. After the introduction, you could really feel the love in the room as the adoration from their friends and family continued for quite a few moments. The happy couple then came together to dance their first dance to “Dancing Shoes” by Green River Ordinance.
Carolyn’s father Lynn then joined her on the dance floor for a dance to “Father & Daughter” by Paul Simon. Barbara joined Sean on the dance floor and they danced to “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole.
Following dinner, came the toasts which also included a chance for others to say something to the happy couple. A few friends and family shared some happy salutations and added a few anecdotes before the Maid of Honor Callie, Matron of Honor Devin, and Best Man Patrick spoke. These toasts were also filled with laughter, tears and left everyone smiling at the conclusion of the toasts.
With almost everything about the reception completed before the dance floor opened, it was time to cut the cake. It was a small cake that was located near the sweetheart table Sean and Carolyn shared throughout their special day. After the cutting of the cake, the guests were served a decadent popcorn ice cream which they enjoyed.
Once dessert was over, it was time to open the dance floor and welcome the guests to dance the night away. An eclectic mix of music was an important part of the sound track throughout the special day. A mix of bluegrass, country, 90’s, old school rap, funk, disco and some more recent pop provided variety for all the guests and kept them on their toes. Sean and Carolyn provided a great list of songs they wanted to hear and we were able to provide a few extras to fill in the spaces when needed.
Guests had a great time on the dance floor and so did the happy couple who were on the floor most of the night. They included a special anniversary dance that saluted Angela and Tony, a couple who have been married for 52 years. We love those special dances as they enhance the happiness in the room.
At the end of the night, N*Sync’s “Bye Bye Bye” played as the couple began to prepare for their exit so they could get rest for their trip to Jackson Hole, Wyoming.
We were so happy to be part of Sean and Carolyn’s wedding day. They both have such a positive energy that it is very infectious and you can’t help but smile every time you see them.
